Big Sur – Limekiln State Park

Day 423: I love long exposure photography for the unique challenges it poses and how it paints a different picture of the world than we’re used to seeing. It’s not that a world where the Milky Way shines bright, where animals become blurs, and water is silky smooth doesn’t exist—it’s that our eyes are not adequately adapted to take in these marvels. Our eyes, with a frame rate near 30 frames per second, are marvels, with better dynamic range by far than even the best camera. Imagine what the world would look like if we could adjust that frame rate like we can adjust for different levels of intensity. We could increase the rate to see each beat of a hummingbird’s wings, or slow it down to see falling water as a continuous canvas.
